    What’s in Your Head?
    Series: Romans
In Romans 8:5-11, Paul highlights 2 things: First, that our mindset matters – it reveals the truth about our nature, it makes an eternal difference, and it unmasks our attitude toward God.  Secondly, Paul explains that the Spirit in us means life for us – he helps us understand the Spirit’s identity, and identifies seemingly conditional consequences.  Along the way, we find help in dealing with doubts.

Set your mind on the Spirit’s leading and find life in Christ.

    Free at Last!
    Series: Romans
In Romans 8, Paul offers one of the most encouraging verses in all of Scripture - if we are in Christ, we are not condemned!  After discussing what it means to be, "in Christ," we look to Rom. 8:1-4 and find three things that are true "in Christ": In Christ, we are not condemned by sin; in Christ, we are not controlled by the Law, and in Christ, sin is condemned and the Law is completed.

God condemned sin so that sin would not condemn believers.

    The Tricky Topic of Halloween
    Series: (All)
Halloween, for the most part, is a time of year that leaves many a Christian scratching their head wondering what to do.  Is it innocent fun?  Is it glorifying the occult?  Is it okay for Christian kids to dress up in costumes and go trick or treating?  Should I participate at any level, or lock the door, turn out the lights, and pretend I’m not home?

In this message, Pastor Greg identifies the origins of Halloween.  Then, drawing from the principles in 1 Cor. 10, encourages us to strive for a Biblical orientation, seeking to apply those principles to Halloween.

We are free in Christ, and yet, we need to avoid that which dishonors God and glorifies Satan.

    The Struggle Within
    Series: Romans
What does struggling with sin say about me? Does it mean I’m not really saved? The reality is that every Christian struggles with sin, including the Apostle Paul himself. With the final two paragraphs of Romans 7, Paul exposes the struggle, speaking of our internal condition, our internal conflict, our internal confession, and our internal contrasts.

The reality of our inner struggle should drive us to rely on our Lord’s strength.

    The Value of the Law
    Series: Romans
The Law is a revealer.  In Rom. 7:7-13 Paul shows us that the Law reveals 3 things – 1) The law reveals sin; 2) The law reveals my sinfulness; and 3) The law reveals my need to be saved from sin.
The Law is good because it shows me I am not.

    Dying to Live
    Series: Romans
Christians die in order to live.  In Romans 7, Paul begins to explain what place the Law has in the life of a believer, now that Christ has come.  He makes 4 suggestions in verses 1-6. 1) The Law only has authority as long as we live; 2) Through faith in Christ we have died to the Law; 3) Because we died to the Law, we are now free to live under God's love; and 4) Death to the Law produces fruitful servants, not flagrant sinners.

True freedom comes not from following rules, but from following Jesus.

    Finding Freedom from Sin
    Series: Romans
Paul brings up the topic of slavery as an illustration of how we all live our lives.  We are all enslaved to something or someone.  Ultimately, we are either enslaved to our sin nature, or to God.  With Romans 6:15-23 Paul helps us to see that we have a choice.

Paul begins by stating again that grace does not give us freedom to sin.  Thankfully, though, we are free to choose what controls us.  He concludes by clearly explaining that our choice of what controls us has eternal consequences.

Through faith in Christ we become free to live for Christ.

    Who’s On My Side?
    Series: (All)
We are to be on God's side first, before anything else.  He is certainly on our side.  He is for us.  He is working for our good.  But first we belong to Him.  First we are on His side, not He on ours.

    Two Pillars of Our Faith
    Series: (All)
Psalm 19 deals with two great truths that are pillars of our faith, the creation of God and the Word of God.  It introduces us to two of the ways God has revealed Himself to us; in creation and in the Bible.  In our world of atheism, humanism, secularism, evolution, and post-modernism, this psalm is vital for us.  It is a shelter against the prevailing winds of our day.

Look to the heavens and see the glory of the creator God.  Read the Bible and gain insight into this God.
